  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (or plain yogurt)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf or round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Mix in sour cream and milk until smooth. Gradually add dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. In another bowl, combine cocoa powder with hot water and additional sugar to create chocolate batter.
  6. Fold about 1 cup of the vanilla batter into the chocolate mixture.
  7. Pour half of the vanilla batter into the prepared pan followed by spoonfuls of chocolate batter; swirl gently with a knife. Repeat with remaining batters.
  8. Bake for about 45–55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool before serving.
